Explore the world
Explore the countries, places, events, wildlife. Also there are some interesting facts (list of places) about the world (eq: highest settlements, oldest settlements, etc...).
The community also offers data to explore such as travels, stories and photos. The stories and photos are visible ony with the owners consent - the owner can publish a story or some of photos. The travels from the past are always visible (inspiration purposes for other travelers), but if the user is not public, the travels are anonymous.
Explore history of the world - historical maps, old civilations, discoveries, arts, important people and events along the history.
Places, wildlife, arts, discoveries and people can be sorted by ranking. The ranking is based on an internal formula based on facts - there are no ranks based on reviews or other user inputs.
All the above options are available for country or place exploring!
Explore places
Checkout the beautiful places of the earth. For better exploring there are a number of basic filters - by activities (hike, ski, surf, kayak, etc...), countries, place types (mountains, nations parks, fortress, localities, etc...), wildlife and some flags (as UNESCO, etc...)). There are also some advanced filters based on the choice of the basic filters. The advanced filter can be used for complex filterings of some properties (eq: for mountain - elevation and prominence, building - height, construction year, etc..., ski - season, number of slopes, etc..., whale watching - season, surf - season, wave infos, etc... and so on).
Any place search has a customazible map associated - there can be done interesting things with the map.
A place can be added to favourites group or a custom bucket (the user needs to be logged in).
Also a place can be added in a travel - it will be added as wish place (not added in route) (the user needs to be logged in).
Travels
To manage travels, the user needs to be logged in - create a new trippys account using an email address or login with facebook or google.
A travel can created in future (plan a travel) or in past. Also a travel can be quickly updated while traveling using the mobile version of the site.
The travel route consists in a list of places in a specific order and the transport between them. There can be defined multiple route versions, but finally one must be chosen by the travel owner.
A user should not be adding his week-end gataways as travels - there is feature to add them in home activities!
For each place, some details can be added - accommodations, attractions, activities, daytrips, wildlife, events, art, costs and other things. For each place a daily plan can be defined.
One of the cool features are a couple of tables which summarize a travel and allows editing inplace.
The upcoming/in progress travels will give hints for needed VISA's, needed currency exchange rates.
For already visited places, a story can be written, or photos can be uploaded. By default, the photos and the stories are private (only the owner can see them). The photos and the stories can be published - so they are available for everyone.
The photos can be uploaded from flickr. When publishing photos we encourage not to publish selfies or close-ups with human faces. There are tools to batch edit or import photos.
There is support to write the same story in multiple languages!. If there is no story, the travel can be connected to a blog site.
A travel can be shared to friends based on their email address - they will be able to see everything in this travel, including photos and stories, no matter if the data is public or not. Your friends ca see your data even if they don't have account, using the guest login.
People that are traveling with you, can join the travel if you invite them. After joining they can create route version, add transport/accommodation suggestions. Also they can add wishes for a place visit, photos and write stories. The joined users needs to have an account.
The upcoming/in progress travel can be downloaded as a customazible pdf file. The pdf may contain many information about the coutries, places or wildlifes. This way the user may have a interesting reading material offline while traveling.
User
A new user can be created by logging with the email address, or auto-create by loging in with facebook or google accounts.
For very limited functionality a user can login as guest user. These users cannot create travels.
A user can be public or not. If the user is not public in all context will appear as anonymous, and some pages will not be accesible for others like profile.
A user has a profile (user home page) which shows everything that the user did (activities, visited places, seen wildlife, seen art, attended events).
A user can see its photos using a slideshow with many options (slideshow from multiple travels, random or not photos, etc...)
Any user can follow other users - this way the new travels/photos/stories of followed users can be seen.
A user can share a special url to close friends - this url will allow your friends to see every travel/photo/stories no matter if they are public or not. Friends don't need to create account for this - is enough to login as guest. Of course the list of friends can be managed.
During travel edits, a user may add or edit places, wildlife and events. These can be managed from My Edits menu. This data might be accepted by the system administrator (if they have good data and wiki article attached to them) so they become available for everyone.
A user can manage events that are scheduled in its home town or around the hometown.
A user should not be adding his week-end gataways as travels - there is feature to add them in home activities!
General notes
Travel
A travel represents the a list of places connected by a transport. From time point of view there are upcoming travels, current travels and past travels. From complexity point of view, the travels are categorised in city breaks (less than 5 day trip), vacations (more than 5 days trip with less than 11 visited places) and adventure (more than 2 weeks trip with more than 10 places visited).
List
A list is a collection of places. The lists can be created by any user or by the system. A list can be simple (contain just places) or ranked (contain an ordered list of places). The ranked lists contain a property for each place which is the order criteria (eq: list of waterfalls ordered by height will contain the height property for each waterfall in the list). The lists created by users can be published (all other users will be able to see the list)
Places
The system offers some "default" places, but any user can define new places through a travel. Those places will be visible only for the user that created them, but the system can accept it if will meet an acceptance criteria. The places can be filtered in various ways: through lists, country, distance, etc...
Travel
Visited places
For a visited place in the travel the start and the end date of the visit must be specified. Also a comment or a tip about the place can be specified. Other details may include the accommodation that was used, visited attractions, the thing you've done, the day trips and the costs.
Planned places
For a planned place in a travel the visit duration must be specified (number of days/nights). Also some helpfull notes might be specified. Other details may include the accommodation where you'll sleep, attractions you will visit, the thing you plan to do, the day trips and the budget.
Current place
Current place is the place you are currently visiting. When visiting a place you can checkin/checkout a accommodation, attraction, you can keep track of spent money and time.
Transport
The transport is how to get from one place to another. Details include the type of the transport (car, train, plane, etc...), start time, duration, start date (in case of reservation or used)
Day trip
The daytrip is a trip that starts from a place and returns in the same place. With other words you sleep in the same place - don't checkout from the accommodation. The daytrip contains a list of places that are visited/planned and the transport used between them. A place from a daytrip will not contain accommodation and daytrips.
Accommodation
Accommodation is a place where to sleep. The details contain the address/location (lat, lng), type of the accommodation (hostel, hotel, etc...), price, persons in the room, etc....
Attractions
The attractions are places that can be visited in a location. They contain similar details as a place visit/plan. If the place was visited, for a attraction the visit date must be specified. If the place is planned to be visited, a daily plan for the attractions can be created.
To do
This is a list of things you've done or you will do in a place. Sometimes you may see suggestions based on the activities you can do in the place.
Costs for a place
This will help you to keep track of the spent money. This option is available only for a visited or current place.
Photos
You can upload the best 12 photos for a place. This option is available only for visited/current place.
Story
Create you're own story about your visit in various languages. Your story can be published so others can read them in a wonderful layout. The story will use pictures that you uploaded for the visited places.
Errors
The travel errors are displayed in this section - accommodations/transports you didn't reach or you will not be able to reach. To have a clean travel, correct these errors/warnings.
Share
You can share your travel to other people even if they don't have an accont. These people will be able to see whatever you do in your trip.
Invite/Join
If you don't travel alone, invite the other people to your travel. When they will accept your invitation (join the travel), this travel will appear in their travel list.
Statistics
The statistics page will offer you various informations like how many countries were visited, how much money was spent on transports, visits, etc... in total or in each country, how much time you spent on transports, places, etc... in total or per country, etc....
